Blutströpfchen

Blutströpfchen

Another specimen of Zygaena spec, called Widderchen or Blutströpfchen (Blood droplet) in german, the englisch name is burnet moth.
Also tried a higher aperture for a bigger DOF, as I find the blurred blossom a bit disturbing, but as it was quite windy that day I got no better shot... but at least the insect is sharp....

  • Nice photograph, beautiful subject and perfect composition.
I don't find the blurred blossom disturbing. An accent here is where is have to be: on the insect, which is perfectly sharp and everything else is just a secondary details that complete the scene. But you could have tried something like f/11, focal length of 150 mm will easily allow longer exposure, around, say, 1/250 sec. Just my two cents.

  • The focus on the flower is not distracting. The eye is drawn to the moth right away. I like the blur on its antenna.
